Gunhild Sorine Olson Jaabæk

   Another name for Gunhild was Gunil Sorine Eriksen.

  General Notes:

When her husband (the captain) was lost at sea, Gunhild had to clean boats to try to earn enough money to keep her five young children together.
Emmigrated to US from Norway in 1898.
In 1910 US census was living with two daughters Goluvna and Maia with their familes in a rented house 863 Castle Hill Avenue, The Bronx, NY. Also according to the 1910 census Gunhild had 8 children of which 6 were still alive.
Gunhild or her husband was the descendent of a member of the Norwegian parliament known as Jorbek (Yorbeck). In 1814, at independence from Denmark, the ancester invested money into the new government. In 1930 the Norwegian goverment tried to find descendants in the US to return the monies. None was received.
Gunhild was known to her great grand children as Bestimor (Norwegian for granny).
In 1920 census Gunhild living with daughter Maia/Marie Smith in Tolland, Connecticut.

Gunhild married Søren Abrahamsen, son of Christopher Abrahamsen and Unknown, on 14 Aug 1860 in Mandal, , Vest-Agder, Norway. (Søren Abrahamsen was born in 1831 in Spangereid S. Søndre Undal, Norway and died in 1877 in North Sea between England and Norway.)
