bullet  General Notes:

W.C. Reeve Suicide

Just after we had our paper off press last week, the news reached here that W.C. Reeve had shot himself. He was visiting at the time with his brother Pres near Guide Rock.

The family had gone to town, and on their return were horror-stricken to find the brother lying near the barn door in an unconscious condition and a bullet hole in his head. The rash deed was committed about 4:00 in the afternoon. He had taken a 22 cal. rifle and gone to a neighbor's house and borrowed some cartridges, saying he was going hunting.

He evidently returned home at once and must have planned for his rash act. He shot himself in the side of the head, just above and a little in front of the ear.

When the family returned, the report was at once given out and doctors were hurriedly summoned, but it was soon found that there was no hope of recovery, although he lived until 11:10 that night but never regained consciousness.

W.C. Reeve was born in Jonesboro, Indiana June 4, 1858; was married to Mattie Higginbotham July 23, 1890. He died as above stated and leaves the wife, one son, two daughters, two sisters, and four brothers to mourn his death. When the news reached here, the family at once went to the scene and the body was brought home the next day. The funeral occurred from the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, Rev. F.G. Knauer conducting the services, assisted by Rev. W.M. Brooks.
