General Notes:
When Elizabeth met and married John Dimes, she disowned her entire family, and as far as we know, never had any further contact with them. They lived at 2 Bruce Road, Poplar,Bromley, where Norman John was born on 24th April 1916, two months premature. He was baptised on 28th May 1916 at St Leonard's Church, Bromley. In June 1920 Francis Gordon was born, then the family moved to New Malden, Surrey, and in 1922 Sylvia Elizabeth completed the family. They eventually bought 48 Blakes Avenue, New Malden. They had many holidays abroad, without their children, and had a comfortable life. However, they were not a close family. During the war, they left their house, and lived in Bristol for a while. They returned to New Malden in 1949. When she was widowed in 1965 she moved down to Rustington on the south coast, and lived there in a flat for several years, before buying an end-of-terrace, two-bedroom house in Horsham, Sussex, to be near her friends. When she was invited to my wedding, she told me my grandfather had made her promise never to set foot in a Catholic Church, so she couldn't come. Fortunately she changed her mind and came anyway. She remained reasonably well till her mid-nineties, then she began getting vague and needed a walking frame. She eventually became senile and spent the last year of her life in a Nursing Home, where she was a very difficult patient. She died there aged 98 years and 11 months.
Elizabeth married John Francis Arthur Dimes, son of Frank George Dimes and Annie Eliza Caroline Dupree, in Jul 1915 in Poplar, London, England. (John Francis Arthur Dimes was born in 1892 in Mile End, Whitechapel, London, England and died on 8 Dec 1965 in New Market, Middlesex, England.)
