Anne Doris' elder daughter remembering her mother writes ...
My mother's father was Swiss and her mother Norwegian. They had both come to London in the early 1900's - my grandfather as a waiter at top hotels, and my grandmother was in service before her marriage. My mother was the third of four girls, born on 20th May 1914. She was a shorthand typist/secretary. She met my father at the beginning of the war and they married on 26th July 1941, just before he went off to fight. He returned in 1946 and I was born in 1947, my sister in 1949. We were both born in Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Hammersmith - quite unusual for those days, but my mother was rhesus negative, which could have been a problem. We lived for 9 months in one room of her best friend's house, then moved to a new Council house in New Malden. My father left in 1954 and mum took some part-time jobs while we were at school. We moved to Hythe in Kent in 1958 and when we were both at secondary school she went into full-time work, as an audio typist for a solicitor. While on holiday in Germany in August 1965 she developed stomach pains, and in November she had an exploratory operation which found untreatable bowel cancer. She died in Folkestone Hospital on 20th April 1966 and is buried in St Martin's Churchyard, Hythe.

Doris married Norman John Dimes, son of John Francis Arthur Dimes and Elizabeth Larkey, on 26 Jul 1941. (Norman John Dimes was born on 24 Apr 1915 in Bromley, Kent, England, christened in Mar 1916, died on 7 Apr 1988 in Hounslow, London, England and was buried in Hounslow, London, England.)
