Albert Arthur Dimes

The followig was written about Albert by his daughter Doreen:

My dad and his two brothers were the sons of Frederick James Dimes and Lavinia Baker. They were brought up in Shoreditch in East London. They lived in Wenlock Street.
My mother, Hilda Kathleen Brewer and my father married on 3.9.1939. Dad was called up in 1940 and served in The Fleet Air Arm as a Leading Aircraftman. He was sent to Detling Aerodrome near Maidstone in Kent. This was the home of 500 sqaudron. Anson Bombers. They were sent out to the English Channel to protect our convoys at sea.
On Tuesday August 13^th 1940 there was an horrific attack on the aerodrome by the Luftwaffe. JU88's (Stukas) They bombed the aerodrome, killing 69 personnel. My father was injured but survived. He had to deal with the aftermath of the raid. He had to pick up body parts and transport them to a makeshift mortuary. This terrible event triggered the schizophrenia that he suffered all his life. This put my parent's marriage under so much stress. However, their love for each other helped them through the turmoil. They had been married 30 years when my father died in 1969 of cancer of the Oesophagus.
During those terrible years my mother had to section my father. He had to go into Friern Barnet Mental Hospital throughout most of his life. He was employed as a delivery driver for a pharmaceutical company call British Drug Houses - now part of Glaxo, Smith and Kline.

Albert married Hilda Kathleen Brewer on 3 Sep 1939. (Hilda Kathleen Brewer was born on 29 Aug 1916 in Islington, Middlesex, England.)
