1891 Census living at Lodge Hill Road, Lower Bourne, Farnham with his grand parents, Jesse and Emily.
1901 census living in Frensham with grandmother Emily and Aunt Emily Lavinia Bonner (nee Dimes),
On 2 Nov 1905 he enlisted in the Royal Navy at Portsmouth for 12 years. He had previously been a gardener. 5 foot 2 inches tall, blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, scar on forehead. Had tattoo of cross hands and heart with the words 'True Love' on his right forearm. He served as a Boy from 8 May 1903 to 2 Nov 1905 on St. Vincent, Boscawen 3, Caesar, Fire Queen and Good Hope. After he served on Vernon, Victory 1, Excellent, Dreadnought, Revenge, Hindustan and Royal Sovereign which he joined in April 1916. He died on the Royal Sovereign when he was accidentally killed on board. The report said, "No blame is attachable to anyone but himself". he is buried at Mount Cemetery, Guildford. His next of kin was given as his Aunt, Mrs. E. L. Bonner.
