Described by great grand daughter as a man of intimidating manner, an atheist, a solicitor by profession. He was known to his children as The Sir. Although he lived alone after his wife's death, he still meticulously dressed for dinner every evening.
1851 farmer of 105 acres at Oldstone, Blackawton, Devon. Employs 3 outside labourers.
1853 granted the manor of Rickmansworth by his father subject to a mortgage of £600.
1856 member of the committee concerned with huilding the railway extension to Kingsweir.
Jan 1857 takes out a further mortgage on the Rickmansworth property. The outstanding total is £2,368.
Dec 1857 Rickmansworth Manor is sold to Mr. Cudden for £4,700 and the debt is paid off.
