Emigrated to America between Jul 1881 and Sep 1882 with his brother Joseph Frederick. Became a US citizen on 25th Oct 1898. Also have naturalization petition dated 11th September 1885, with an address of 40 Charlton St, New york City.

Richard Dimes, Sr. was born at 39 Pulheney Street, in Islington. He was the son of Francis Dimes and Susannah Brown.

He married Caroline Patterson on 11 Feb 1877 at St. Anne's, Westminster. They were the parents of nine children. The first three children -- Ellen E., Ada & Richard (died at birth) -- were born in England. The next six -- Samuel T., Bertram F., Mary Alice, Ethel M., Mabel & Richard -- were born in Massachusetts.

Between 1881 and 1882, the Dimes family emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts. Trained in England, Richard found employment as a master silversmith. According to the Encyclopedia of American Silversmiths, 3rd edition, he worked for both Towle Manufacturing and the Frank W. Smith Company. He founded Dimes Company in 1908. The company ceased to exist in 1955, when it was acquired by the King Silver Company.

Richard married Caroline Patterson, daughter of Thomas Patterson and Elizabeth Taylor, on 11 Feb 1877 in St. Anns, Westminster. (Caroline Patterson was born on 18 Aug 1856 in St. James, London, died on 18 Oct 1917 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA and was buried in Forestdale Cemetery, Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.)
