1887 Apprentice to Silversmith
12 Jun 1888, Edward joined the local yeomanry, the 19th Middlesex Voluntary Reserve and rose to the rank of corporal. Changes in the organization of the territorial force transferred him to the 9th County of London, Queen Victorias in April 1908. He then attended the annual training camp on Salisbury Plain in August 1908 and 1909.
