Attended Townsend Harris High School.
During WW1, was member of 51st Pioneer Infantry, working in the stables, looking after the horses that carried equipment. Served in France.
In census 1910 lived at 963 Castlehill avenue, Unionport (the Bronx).
Worked as office manager for Tobey and Kirk, stockbrokers for most of his career.
Lived in the Bronx, NY until Nov 1955, then lived out his life in Hawthorne, NY.
In 1925, artist and illustrator Anton Schutz once used Tobey and Kirk offices at 4 Broad Street as vantage point for sketching Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. The etching hangs in the Smithsonian Art Museum in Washington DC. https://americanart.si.edu/artist/anton-schutz-4332 Gustave told Mr Schutz about the time he had spent in Germany during WWI tending horses within view of the Cocham Castle. On his next trip to NY, Mr Schutz presented Gustave with an original drawing he had made of the castle. It hung in the home of Gustave's son William.


Gustave married Anna Elizabeth Kassler, daughter of Jacob John Kassler and Anna Schmidt. (Anna Elizabeth Kassler was born on 7 Oct 1902 in New York, New York, USA, died in Mar 1962 in White Plains, New York, USA and was buried in Mar 1962 in Valhalla, New York, USA.)
