bullet  General Notes:

Isaac was baptized in Crondall in 1836. He had moved to London by 1851, when he was employed as a page at 48 Weymouth Street, Marylebone. It seems likely that he had procured the post by recommendation as the cook was also born in Crondall. In 1860 he married Isabella Dearman in the Hampstead area and had 9 children. In 1863, Isaac acted as witness at his sister Ann's wedding at St. Mark's, Old Street, fairly close to where he lived. In 1867, 1868 and 1871 Isaac visited Crondall and signed the marriage register when his sisters Harriet, Emma and Louisa were married.
By 1871, Isaac has become a letter carrier or postman and lived at 168 Corporation Buildings, Farringdon Street, Clerkenwell for over 10 years.
Isaac died in 1887 by which time he had risen to telegraph inspector with the GPO and lived at 359 Goswell Road, Clerkenwell.
In his will Isaac left 170 pounds 5 shillings to his wife.
Here is a a story found in the Surrey Mirror for 24th July 1880. The 15th Annual Dinner of the Post Office Happy Days Excursion Society took place on Saturday July 17th 1880 at Mr Richardson's the Feathers Inn, Merstham, when twenty five letter carriers attached to the East Central Office, sat down to a splendid dinner provided in Mr Richardson's noted style, thus making the fourth year they have attended Merstham. After grace the chairman read a letter from one member who was absent through domestic affliction, when it was unanimously resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to him. The party having retired to the lawn, bowls, quoits, and other out-door amusements were indulged in. During the evening the company was enlivened by the Merstham Brass Band, and dancing and singing carried on til 9.15pm when a smart thunderstorm put a stop to all outdoor sports. The party left Merstham by the last train, having spent a very happy day. The member heartily appreciated the Merstham Brass Band. The whole of the arrangements were carried out by Mr C. Garratt, chairman, Mr I Dimes, treasurer, and Mr R. H. Potter.
