During routine surgery at St. Mary's hospital Paddington, an assistant holding a lamp moved unexpectedly and the Doctor slipped puncturing Mary's good eye.
Mary had 13 children. 9 lived through childhood, but 8 of these emmigrated to USA or South Africa. Edwin was the only child to remain in England. Lillian Ethel Brown (Annie's daughter) stayed behind to look after her grandmother Mary.
Mary uses to crochet quilts for her daughter Florence and mail them to America. Florence in return sent parcels back to her mother and nephew and nieces.
