In 1881 census Thomas known as Henry aged 15 was a boarder an an apprentice carpenter with the Webb family (originally from Hampshire) in Battersea. Thomas Henry left home to take up an apprenticeship on the railway as a carpenter at Nine Elms, which he abandoned two years later in order to go to sea. In the 1891 census Thomas Henry was on leave from his ship and was visiting his parents and his sister Martha was still at home. In 1901, he was on board a naval ship as a chief stoker. He was registered in the census as Harry. His brother William was also on the same ship as a stoker. The ship was in the Suez Canal on census day. Thomas Henry rose to be a chief petty officer and served for a period on the Royal Yacht. His wife Susannah and two eldest children were living at 37 Gladstone Street, Portsmouth. Thomes Henry on retiring from the navy, worked as a chauffeur around London and then took the Plough public house in Duxford, Cambridgeshire. In 1907, on his fathers death, his mother Elizabeth went to live at Duxford with Thomas Henry. Elizabeth died there in 1913. In 1911 Thomas is an Inn Keeper at the Plough, In 1939 registry naval pensioner retired.
Thomas married Susannah Prentis, daughter of Henry Barett Prentis and Sarah Turner, on 9 Jan 1898 in Walthamstow, Essex, England. (Susannah Prentis was born on 16 Mar 1872 in Great Bardfield, Essex, England and died on 5 Feb 1952.)
