bullet  General Notes:

Sarah was the last person with the Dimes surname to live in Guildford. In 1779 she and two of her brothers-in-law, Robert Carter and Francis Walker, took out a fire insurance with the Sun Fire Insurance Company on a timber and tiled house valued at £440 occupied by widow Whitaker, and three brick and timber and tiled stables in Mill Lane, Guildford, valued at £60 and occupied by Mr Lewis, innkeeper. Sarah lived to be 80. She was buried at St Mary's in 1803. She made bequests of £10 each to the children of her sister Elizabeth, William and Thomas Parkhurst and their sisters, Sarah who married William Port, tailor, in 1780 and was living in St. Nicholas parish and Mary whose married name is marked by a blank space in the will. Sarah also left an annuity of £20 a year to her niece Mary Carter, daughter of her sister Ann. This suggests that Mary was a spinster, unlikely to get married. Finally, the rest of her estate was left to her sister Jane Walker of Amersham.
