Charles William Dimes

  General Notes:

Charles was educated in Hamburg, Germany from the age of 13 and then trained to be an engineer. He worked for the Pulsometer Works, Battersea and lived in lodgings after his father's move to Oldstone.
In 1896 he was living at 18 Macduff Road, Battersea.
In the 1901 census, he was described as a draughtsman and mechanical engineer and was still at Battersea.
In 1915 he was a civil engineer living at 'Blackburne', Lower Bourne, Farnham, and by 1919 he had moved to 'Holly Bank', Lower Bourne.
In 1928 he inherited the Oldstone estate and moved to live at Greenslade, Blackawton. Charles took his father's place on the parish council.
In 1944, the whole village was evacuated at 6 weeks notice for training for the Normandy Landings and Charles and family moved to Dreyton Farm. Charles was described as a king, if rather unbusinesslike man, who kept the estate ticking over and in as good an order as he could.
After his death, the estate was sold, many of the tenantsbuying their frams or cottages.

Charles married Louisa Ann Evans in 1900 in Wandsworth, London, England. (Louisa Ann Evans was born in 1877 in Beverley, Yorkshire and died on 7 Oct 1941.)

Charles next married Eleanor Daunton Q4 1944 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. (Eleanor Daunton was born on 17 Jun 1881 and died on 27 Jul 1973 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.)
