Will of John Dymes of Whitley 1631 (transcribed by Wendy Cope)

The nuncupative will of John Dymes late of Brooke in the parish of Whitley in the County of Surrey yeoman as he did appoint ordain and make the same the 22nd May in the year of Our Lord God 1631 in the presence of Alice Payne, Thomas Temperllye, Henry Petoe and Lawrence Byde.
First he did bequest his soul to God that gave it and his body to be buried at the discretion of his executrix under named.
Item. He gave to Alice Dymes his daughter his cupboard in the hall, his Bible and one pair of flannel sheets.
Item. He gave to Joan Dymes his daughter two pillows and his best chest.
Item. He gave to Frances Dymes his daughter his bedstead in the little loft, one table, one form, two platters and little chest.
He promises that if any of his said daughters do die before she or they do accomplish the age of 18 years that her or their legacies here or bequests shall remain to the survivor or survivors of them provided also that his wife should have the benefit of these goods herein bequeathed during her natural life.
All the rest of the goods assets and effects whatsoever his debts and legacies and funeral charges discharged he gave and bequested unto Joan his wife whom he did appoint and make sole executrix of this his last will and testament.
