Edith Crocker

The following was written by Irene Gilder (nee Scarrott):
Edith, the second child of James and Ruth, and my grandmother, was born late in 1883. On the night of the 1891 census Edith was with her parents are Harmour Road, Tilehurst. By the time of the 1901 census she was working as a domestic housemaid in the James R and Charlotte H King of Bozedown, Whitchurch, Berkshire. St. Michael's Church, Tilehurst saw another family wedding on 30^th March 1907 when Edith married Josiah Edwin Scarrott who was 24 (b1883). Josiah was an Engineer living at 43 Church Lane, Edmonton, N.London. Ediths address was given as West View Villa, Victoria Road, Tilehurst. Their witnesses were James Crocker (no idea which one at the moment) and Jessie Elizabeth Scarrott (Josiah's sister). To had two children, Jessie Louisa b 1908 New Cross, London and Edwin James b 8.7. 1917 Edmonton (my father). Josiah died when my father was just 13. Josiah and Edith were living at 72 Meadowvale Road, East Croydon at the time of his death in Purley Memorial Hospital, Croydon on 1^st August 1930 aged just 47. Edith moved back to Tilehurst to be nearer her family and in 3^rd quarter of 1934 she married a widow, Henry Elder in Reading. Sadly I do not remember my grandmother as she passed away on 14^th October 1948 when I was just 1 year old and was buried in Henley Road Cemetary, Caversham.

Edith married Josiah Edwin Scarrott, son of Scarrott and Unknown, on 30 Mar 1907 in Tilehurst, Berkshire, England. (Josiah Edwin Scarrott was born in 1883 and died on 1 Aug 1930 in Croydon, London, England.)

Edith next married Henry Elder in 1934 in Reading, Berkshire, England.
