General Notes:
JOHN DIMES (1787-1815) There is an interesting note concerning John Dimes, who was the second son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Dimes and was born in Crondall in 1787. He was enlisted by Lt. Delaps into the 1st Dragoon Guards, who were based in Farnham in November 1810. For his recruitment appraisal he had to march from Farnham to London and back. Evidently he passed muster for he remained quartered in Farnham until 10 February 1811 when he was sent to the cavalry depot in Maidstone. By March 25th 1811 he had joined the regiment in Dundalk and was stationed in Dublin in December of that year. In June he moves to Clonmell, November to Clogheen and in March 1813 Cappoquin. In October 1813 the regiment is in Coventry. In March 25 he moves with the regiment to Waterloo and is named on the supplementary pay roll entitled to additional rates. On 18 June 1815 he was killed in action at Waterloo.
