Enlisted for 2 years in the Army Ordnance Corps and served in Turkey and Greece after WW1. After the army he found a sales job in Sloan Street, London, at a "black coat and pin stripe trouser job" at one pound per week, which later rose to one pound 7 shillings and six pence. He then became an insurance collector, working from an office over a shop opposite Arding and Hobbs at Clapham junction.
After marriage he lived first at Barnes and then for 30 years at Latchmere Road, Battersea.
In 1997 he moved to Paignton, Devon, to be near his son.
George married Evelyn Brown on 22 Aug 1931 in Battersea, London, England. (Evelyn Brown died in 1970.)
